👰 The secret to a perfect wedding (and a pretty good life)

Dear Joy Seeker,

Yesterday, I was talking to my friend Jelena, who just got married this weekend, and she said that one of her biggest priorities for the wedding day was to be present.

Not just physically there but actually there.

She mentioned how all the months of planning - guest lists, seating plans, flowers, dresses, menus, timelines, RSVPs - can easily make you think: I can't wait until this is over and I can finally relax.

And then the day arrives and it's gone.

Just like that.

So Jelena made a conscious decision: I'm going to be here for it.

To notice it. To feel it.

To look around the room.

To take in the people she loves.

To actually experience her own wedding rather than mentally rushing toward the moment when it would all be over.

And it got me thinking, how often do we do this with our lives?

We plan the holiday for months… then spend it thinking about the next trip.

We work toward the promotion...then immediately start thinking about the next level.

We plan the weekend...then spend Sunday evening wishing it wasn't Sunday.

We wait for Friday. Then the holiday.

Then the promotion. Then the relationship. Then the next chapter.

Then things to calm down. Then life to become easier.

And suddenly, we have spent years living in a perpetual state of:

“I can't wait for this to be over.”

But what if this is the part?

What if we don't need to rush through the messy middle just to get to the good bit? What if the good bit is already happening?

There is something so powerful about being fully alive in the moment you're actually in.

Not pretending everything is perfect or forcing yourself to be grateful.

Just being here.

Presence isn't about doing less.

It's about experiencing more of what you're already doing.

And perhaps that's one of the greatest forms of joy available to us.

To stop, look around and realise:

Oh, I'm here.

This is my life.

And I want to be in it.

🌟 3 Ideas for Creating More Joy This Week

1. Stop rushing the good stuff - when something beautiful is happening, don't immediately photograph it, post it or move on. Stay with it for another 30 seconds.

2. Let someone finish their story - no planning your response while they're talking. Just listen.

3. Be fully in one room at a time - if you're at dinner, be at dinner. If you're working, work. If you're resting, rest. Let your attention have one home.
