The must read book for every leader

One of the best things about ThePower Business School is how it leaves you wanting more. For example, as a student, you go through a whole Leadership Module, learning from some of the best minds out there such as Mo Gawdat, Daniel Lamarre (CEO of Cirque du Soleil) or John Mackey (CEO of Wholefoods) and you are left after the sessions wanting to go deeper into the knowledge you just received.

Thanks to ThePower Business School student community, I received a book recommendation to help me quench this thirst of knowledge. I decided to spend my Sunday morning reading “Trillion Dollar Coach: The Leadership Handbook of Silicon Valley's Bill Campbell” and I am falling in loving with this book more and more with every page I turn. Simple and effective leadership stories, all gravitating around my favourite theme: it’s all about the people.

This morning’s chapters’ takeaways:

People are the foundation of any company's success. The primary job of managers is to help people be more effective in their job, to grow and develop.

As a manager, you aim to attract great people who want to do well, are capable of doing great things and come to work fired up to do them. Great people flourish in an environment that amplifies and empowers that energy.

How do you create this environment? It’s all about support, respect and trust.

  1. Support means giving people the tools, the information they need to succeed. It means continuous effort to develop people’s skills. Great managers help people to excel and grow.

  2. Respect means understanding people’s unique career goals and being sensitive to their life choices. It means helping people achieve these career goals in a way that's consistent with the needs of the company.

  3. Trust means freeing people to do their jobs and make decisions. It means knowing that people want to do well and believing that they will.

When in doubt, remember these three words: Support, Respect, Trust.
